Dog-Ear Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 11, 2026
Summary
Dog-Ear does not collect personal information. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking of any kind. The app plays audiobooks and reads ebooks from libraries you choose, and it only talks to the servers you add.
Information the app stores on your device
- Your libraries. The name, address and user name of each library server you add. Passwords are kept in your device’s Keychain and are only ever sent to the server they belong to.
- Your reading and listening. Where you are in each book, bookmarks, finished and hidden books, playback speed and reader settings.
- Books and covers. Books you download for offline use, books you send to the device, and cached cover images.
All of this stays on your device and is never sent to us.
Network connections
- Your own servers. Dog-Ear connects only to the library servers you add (for example a home server, a web folder, or a WebDAV share) to list, stream and download your books. Those servers are run by you or by whoever you choose; their own policies apply.
- The Sample Library. If you tap “Try the Sample Library”, Dog-Ear loads a small collection of public-domain books from a server run by Flexgames. Like any web server it records the IP address and time of each request in its logs; we use these only to keep the service running and to limit abuse, and we do not link them to anyone. You can remove the Sample Library at any time in Settings.
- Wi-Fi Transfer. While the Wi-Fi Transfer screen is open, Dog-Ear runs a small web server on your local network so you can send books from a computer. It stops when you leave that screen and is not reachable from the internet.
Information handled by Apple
iCloud. If you are signed in to iCloud, Dog-Ear uses Apple’s key-value storage to keep your place in each book in sync between your own devices. This data lives in your personal iCloud account under Apple’s privacy policy. We have no access to it.
What we do not do
- We do not collect personal information.
- We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services.
- We do not show advertising or use advertising identifiers.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not sell or share data with third parties.
Children
Dog-Ear does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device, including downloads and saved passwords. Reading positions synced through iCloud can be removed in your device’s iCloud settings. Books on your own servers are never changed by Dog-Ear.
